Skyrocketing prescription drug costs are crippling America's healthcare system and pricing many patients out of the medicines they need to live. One clear answer to this healthcare crisis is to ensure consumer access to safe, effective, affordable generic and biogeneric drugs.

Today, patients don't have access to lower cost versions of an entire class of drugs - biologics. The introduction of generic competition in the biologic drug market will reduce costs, increase access, and spur innovation. We believe that a balanced generic approval pathway for biologics will promote true innovation while ensuring patients reap the benefits. Congress must create a meaningful pathway for the approval of biogenerics or biosimilars with legislation that puts patients first, like the Promoting Innovation and Access to Life-Saving Medicine Act (S. 726/H.R. 1427).

It's time to remind lawmakers that generic drugs save lives!
